The law was <a title=\"www.soxlaw.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.soxlaw.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)<\/a> and introduced sweeping changes to financial reporting. Other countries followed suit, and now wherever you go the regulatory requirements for governance and compliance reporting have continued to grow. This includes other areas of businesses as well, including: manufacturing, supply chain, product quality and safety.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As you might expect, there is now a three letter acronym used to encapsulate governance and regulatory issues \u2013 GRC (governance, risk and compliance) \u2013 which is \u201cthe capability that enables an organization to reliably achieve objectives while addressing uncertainty and acting with integrity; including the governance, assurance and management of performance, risk, and compliance\u201d (Open Compliance and Ethics Group).<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to tools and systems, doing GRC on a spreadsheet creates a disconnected system which doesn\u2019t help with visibility or compliance, and often results in increased costs. A better approach is to have an integrated system that not only ensures operational transactions align with controls, but also manages the execution of processes, administers role permissions and access, and handles how information flows.<\/p>\n<p>Because of <a title=\"www.syspro.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.syspro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SYSPRO\u2019s<\/a> international customer base, and the number of customers that have to deal with regulatory issues (from financial reporting, to material quality, and product traceability), our software provides the tools and systems to enable an enterprise to build and operate a compliant organization. Features such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Process Modeling\" href=\"http:\/\/syspro.com\/product\/process-modeling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SYSPRO Process Modeling<\/a> and <a title=\"SYSPRO Workflow Services\" href=\"http:\/\/syspro.com\/product\/syspro-workflow-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SYSPRO Workflow Services<\/a>, which provide a way to orchestrate and provide visibility of complex processes and workflows.<\/li>\n<li>Dashboards, which present a real-time visual presentation of data from the system.<\/li>\n<li>Role-based security and electronic signatures, which enable greater security, access control and ensure integrity of operations.<\/li>\n<li>Lot traceability, which enables quality control through the tracking and replacement of any defective materials.<\/li>\n<li>Powerful general ledger, providing the functionality and flexibility to report according to various reporting standards, such as <a title=\"GAAP\" href=\"https:\/\/www.findanaccountant.co.za\/content_GAAP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GAAP<\/a>, <a title=\"www.ifrs.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ifrs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IFRS<\/a> and the Global Reporting Initiative\u2019s guidelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, software alone cannot make an organization compliant. It is the utilization of the software that will make the difference. It is up to the business to ensure that processes are defined and software is set up and configured so that it meets with regulatory requirements. He started work as a programmer and was one of the early users of the IBM PC. He spent several years working with decision support systems and spent time in Silicon Valley. Moving into the ERP industry, he has been in ERP project management, sales and marketing. He worked with JD Edwards, Dynamics Nav, and with SYSPRO as a reseller and then in corporate product marketing. He also spent several years with a software-as-a-Service (SaaS) vendor. He now uses his technical, sales and marketing knowledge to create content for enterprise software vendors that business and other non-technical people can understand. In his spare time he is a Salesforce administrator for NPOs.
